Timetabled working

Well here we are with a shiny new year stretched out in front of us, ready for volunteers, services and visitors. It’s anybody guess as to what 2026 will be like and the challenges we will face and the rewards we will have. So onwards and upwards withe the first public services being the winter … Continue reading "Happy New Year."
On December 19th, I will be conducting my own observation into the state of international rail, with my journey from Barcelona to Prague, on the first leg of the journey includes the wonderful situation of Rodalies R3 which will be partially closed until some point in 2027, and is currently shut between L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and La Garriga. My most likely route for this situation is to catch the R4 as far as the bus terminus of the R3-replacement (alternatively bus or metro), then the rail replacement bus from Fabra i Puig to Vic, and then the R3 onto La Tor de Querol (to use its Catalan name, as it is in Catalunya Nord). After La Tor de Querol, I will take the train down the mountain to Tolosa (or as French speakers insist the Occitan city is called, Toulouse) and share a sleeper with 5 strangers to Paris. After Paris is still to be decided but I need to be in Leipzig early on the 21st to attend a US episcopalian service, which is odd for me as an atheist but I think I’ll enjoy it.
You may notice my bus isn’t to La Garriga, I can also catch the bus to La Garriga, but Renfe have actually made the wise decision of running a bus to the relatively large city of Vic rather than running the minimum service possible, also the bus is faster than that train. I may choose La Garriga cause it’s pretty but as I won’t be there long, it doesn’t matter much.
Interestingly I did notice there was an ALSA bus service to Llivia that stops in Puigcerdà, but that service arrives in Puigcerdà a whole 6 minutes after the train north departs back to Tolosa. And ALSA afaict isn’t in Interrail so doesn’t help me anyways.
