The Sahel is once again a war zone. And it is losing its future.

Attacks on Bamako, Gao, and Timbuktu, the northern city of Kidal, fell into the hands of jihadists and the Tuareg alliance. The instability of the Sahel is increasingly acute, crushed between ethnic feuds and lack of development: the democratization of the early millennium now seems a distant memory.

Domani

The truck’s painted red and the girls are in gear,
The end of our Timbuktu saga is here!
From a Yale educated, intellectual stance,
To a five-way, moon-howlin’, back-of-truck dance.

There’s Poe with his shadows and Frost with his grit,
And a barroom brawl logic where nobody quit.
We’ve got Belle at the wheel and a banjo in tow,
One last wild ride ‘ere the moon settles low.

Is it high-brow literature? Maybe a touch.
Is it low-brow debauchery? Probably much.
So finish the jar and let’s bid an adieu,
To the legendary lovers from the bluff Timbuktu!

We’re returnin’ once more where the bad choices grew,
To that bluff of regret folks call Timbuktu.
Where the stars shine like sins and the whiskey runs bold,
And the stories get better (or worse) when retold.

There’s Tim with his grin and his judgment askew,
Still recoverin’ pride from that last rendezvous.
With a camo thong prize and a mixtape of pain,
He swore he’d be wiser, then did it again.

Oh the gals? They’re a storm wrapped in denim and sass,
With a wink that says “trouble” and boots built to gas.
And poor Tim met a toad in a moment unplanned,
Let’s just say it got weird and got way outta hand.

Same bluff, same fools, but the stakes somehow grew,
With more moonshine, more mischief, more “what did we do?”
If you thought last time’s chaos had reached its peak,
Well Timbuktu’s sequel just doubled the streak.

So pour up a jar and don’t ask for the truth,
It’s a tale best enjoyed with selective uncouth.
’Cause what happens out there where bad judgment runs free,
Don’t stay buried too long, no, it comes back in three.

Two rednecks, a truck and a bottle of shine,
Met three mystery gals who were lookin’ divine.
One campsite, one night and a whole lot of mess.
What happened in Timbuktu? None will confess!

With questionable whiskey and boots on the floor,
The tent started jumping…then jumpin’ some more.
It ain’t on a map and that’s probably best,
Since those bacchanalian scenes need their rest.

Bad choices were made, but we’ve zero regret,
It’s the wildest rendezvous April has met!
So grab you a jar and a seat by the fire,
For a National Poetry Month tale of desire.

AFRIKA UND EUROPA - Die Wüstenstadt Timbuktu - Alles Geschichte - Der History-Podcast | BR Podcast
