Lightning by Starlight

Evening thunderstorms are common in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Land heats up all day. Moist ocean air flows in and up into clouds, a thin band of storms just inland. After sunset the flow reverses. Land cools and air flows back over the warm ocean, sweeping storms with it. Small and isolated, but sometimes intense.

A 30 second exposure caught star trails and a lightning flash in one shot, sea and cloud aglow.
