Mountains Mountains Mountains was first released on the Catsup Plate label in 2008 in an edition of only 500 copies, and was Mountains’ first album released on a label other than the band’s Apestaartje label. The pieces were recorded during the duo’s early years, between 2005-07, demonstrating that that even at this early stage they were fully confident in thier unique use of dynamics, moving from subtle acoustic guitar and electronics to an absolutely huge wall of sound drone...

For C'mon their string-bass/acoustic guitar core is augmented by Jim Dorling's move from harmonium to bass clarinet which he often plays in tandem with Ben Vida's cornet. In addition Liz Payne's adept handling of the hand chimes gives the record an other-worldly feel in conjunction with Josh Abrams' work on the celeste...C'mon is the result of an entire year's labor of love. The album also begins to reveal some heretofore unmentioned influences as well: the work of Arthur Russell, Jimmy Giuffre, and Eno's recordings in the 1970's for the Obscure label mesh with Town and Country's already original and minimally lush sound.

Lattimore inventive harp processing and looping has brought the instrument to a new audience...The Los Angeles based duo became quick friends on overlapping tours, sharing both a drive to push the sonic possibilities of their instruments and roots in North Carolina. Mary Lattimore and Walt McClements debut collaboration Rain on the Road blossomed out of that time spent on the road together, capturing the liminal existence of touring life in deeply cinematic compositions.

An absolutely brilliant record, and probably my favorite release to ever come from Thrill Jockey.
Which is saying something, considering not only some of the titles they’ve put out, but also because of how many Thrill Jockey records I OWN.

This album is big time comfort music for me. It so chill and laid back, expertly arranged and musically executed by ALL the musicians involved, not just Sam.

The whole Thrill Jockey mafia is here: Sam, Archer Prewitt, John McEntire, Josh Abrams… even the brilliant Jim O’Rourke is here.

This is a masterpiece of #postrock or post-whatever stupid name you want to call it. I know this record in and out, every note, every move.

I will never get sick of it.
Desert Island album for sure.
