Ein kleines Raubtier habe ich noch in meinem #Lavendel, aber Spiderella ist gerade im Mutterschutz. Heute wieder ohne CW, weil man zweimal hinschauen muss, um überhaupt was zu entdecken, oder? // There's a tiny predator in my #lavender, but as you know, Spiderella is on maternity leave atm. Again, no CW today, because it's very difficult to spot her, isn't it?

#Spider update! 🕷️ Without a content warning today, because I have a hard time spotting Spiderella myself here 🔍 (I'm pointing at her, in case you can't find her).

Sooo, on the last episode, I showed you this large new female with the green stripes who made a new home in my #lavender. Turns out she wasn't large, but very, very pregnant. 😅 Two days after the photos, I discovered that she wove together some flower heads and built an egg #cocoon! And suddenly Spiderella isn't quite so large anymore. The poor thing is guarding her egg sac fiercely, despite the rain and storms we had recently. I have no idea when the spiderlings emerge, but it's been a few days now. So excited! 👶

#Spider update! 🕷️ It's been a while! A few weeks ago, I tried to find Spinnerella on her yellow flower, but they had all withered and I couldn't find her. It made me a bit sad and I hope she's well and found a new spot. But! I found a new lady, and even closer to home! Meet Spiderella, the new queen of one of my lavender bushes. 😁 First I thought it's Spinnerella, but I think she's bigger and instead of the cute purple goblin face, this spider has pale green stripes on her back.

Oh, how do you feel about CW? Some do them for spiders, other don't. I'm not an expert on CW and normally don't use them, but I guess it's a case of better safe than sorry? 🤔

#Spider update! 🕷️ I decided to call her Spinnerella (Spinne = spider in German). I guess she's fine with her colour and sees no need to match her yellow flower. But she's still cute to watch. In the first photo, you can see my house in the background, so she's a very close neighbour. I can see her flower from my office window. 🤭

#Spider update! I visited this camera-shy lady again yesterday. She hadn't turned the colour of her host flower yet (this takes several days I read), but I got a better look at her back – look at that smirking goblin face! 😀

Look what I found behind our house today! Apparently this lady #spider is quite rare here, #ThomisusOnustus. 🕷️ They can change colour to mimick the flowers they're residing on, how awesome is that!

This crab spider or Thomisus onustus has been waiting since yesterday on a pelargonium leaf in my garden for prey to come within reach. They are able to change their color to adapt to their environment, although this can take days.

Algo después de florecer los narcisos aparecen las arañas cangrejo. Las hembras son capaces de cambiar de color en unos días para mimetizarse.
1) Macho.
2) Hembra con color aún incorrecto.
3) Hembra con color correcto.

Some time after the daffodils bloom then come the crab spiders. Females can change their color in a few days to mimicry.
1) Male.
2) Female not matching color yet.
3) Female matching color.

The crab spider, Thomisus onustus, is able to adapt the coloration of its body to the space it inhabits, usually on flowers from where it stalks its prey. Their venom acts quickly, allowing them to capture insects larger than themselves: bees, butterflies and hoverflies.
