In death there is life - this ancient redcedar would have been felled in the early part of the 20th century, yet it's stump supports new trees. Beaver Lodge Lands, Campbell River. #ThickTreeTuesday #PNW #VancouverIsland #NaturePhotography

The past few days have been a lot of driving. Saturday, we stopped at the Dismal Swamp State Park, crossing the Canal and admiring the displays in their visitor center, and taking the short boardwalk trail through the swamp.
We then went to the Jamestown National Historic Site, the first English colonial settlement, where we read informational signs about why it was a terrible place to settle. Nice trees, though.
