i love the puzzles in this, i love the ingenuity of it all, and the "aha!" moments that you get when you figure out a rule or a solution are amazing!! i think all of the different rules in this are really interesting, and i loved the challenge (even though it made me want to cave my own head in at times)

however, you can really tell the creator is kind of a douche, just based on the videos littered through the game, as if he's preaching to you about knowledge and learning, and honestly it took away from the game. the puzzles are all generally kinda abstract as well, and maybe this game could have done with some more worldbuilding, more lore, instead of every part of the world serving the singular purpose of being part of the puzzle - i know its probably the dev's artistic choice, they could have chosen differently.

so while i did really enjoy this, and i do feel satisfied having completed it, i think there is a lot that could be improved about it to warrant it getting a higher score from me

okay so I love the Apple Tree puzzle in The Witness. if you need a refresher, it's a puzzle that consts of a "trunk and branches" diagram, and near the diagram is a tree with one apple on it.

you solve the puzzle by tracing the branch on the diagram that corresponds to the branch with the apple. simple, satisfying, sort of acts as a precursor to more complicated "environment" puzzles.

except that the last tree doesn't have an apple on it.

and I've seen people get lost here for quite a while. "was I wrong about the apples? is the apple hidden behind a leaf or something? is this the wrong tree?"

the puzzle has broken its own rules. your new goal is to understand *what* rule has been broken, and why.

the solution: eventually you may notice that the trunk-and-branches diagram has the wrong number of branches! there is a branch on the diagram that does not exist on the real tree! and if you trace that branch, it unlocks a door...

...revealing a sawed-off branch with an apple on it.

I would like to dub this type of trolling as a "Sarcasm Puzzle", since, like verbal sarcasm, you're meant to pick up on a contradiction and infer meaning from it.
