Dag 4667 – The Space Lady – Radar Love
Ze ziet er uit als de vrouwelijke variant van Moondog, en heeft al net zo’n wonderlijke biografie. De Space Lady, geboren als Susan Dietrich, starte eind jaren zeventig als straatmuzikant in Boston op een accordeon tot deze gestolen werd en geruïneerd teruggevonden. Ze kocht vervolgens de toen net verschenen Casiotone MT40 keyboard. Getooid met een zilverkleurige helm voorzien van witte vleugels en een knipperend rood lampje bovenop speelt zij spookachtige etherische covers van rock ’n roll klassiekers.
In 2000 keert zij de muziek de rug toe en gaat terug naar haar geboorteplaats Las Animas in Colorado om voor haar ouders te zorgen. Ze volgt een verpleegkundige opleiding en gaat werken in een verzorgingshuis.
Dankzij internet verspreid haar muziek zich en in 2013 verschijnt dan voor het eerst een officiële release van het ooit door haarzelf opgenomen en gebrande album The Space Lady’s Greatest Hits. In 2014 en 2015 volgden er zelfs tournees door Amerika, Engeland en West-Europa. Haar kleinzoon is tegenwoordig haar manager.
