Flânerie — Wandering along the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris

The flâneur strolls idly while observing society. Let's practice flânerie by strolling with no specific purpose along old city walls and canals in Paris.

"...But a new "generative thermodynamic computer" works by leveraging the noise in the system rather than despite it, meaning it can complete computing tasks with orders of magnitude less energy than typical AI systems require. The scientists outlined their findings in a new study published Jan. 20 in the journal Physical Review Letters..."

'Thermodynamic computer' can mimic AI neural networks — using orders of magnitude less energy to generate images

Researchers generated images from noise, using orders of magnitude less energy than current generative AI models require.

Informati0n isn’t weightless. A stored bit is a defended difference: a gradient held against the univ3rse’s default a-4mnesia. Remembering is maintenance; forgetting is equilibrium collecting its due. You want perm4nence? Pay in heat. #thermodynamics #information

When heat flows like water

The question is: how much space remains on Earth that has not been artificialized by humans?
Almost none.
The reality is that artificialized space is, by definition, no longer functioning in its biosystemic role of balancing ecosystems, soil, carbon, biodiversity, water purification, etc.
So, thinking about fixing anything can only happen by letting non-human life do what it does best in chaos: stabilize.
We will never fix anything ourselves: we are the problem.

Pastoralism (agriculture and domestication) is already in itself an optimization of natural biosystem functioning ... which rejects natural competition.

If you're an investor putting money into such a project, you're so dumb that you deserve being scammed.

Milano Cortina 2026: Cortina Sliding Center

This year’s sliding events–bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton–will take place at the brand-new Cortina Sliding Center. Built on the site of a historic sliding track, this new venue came together in only the last couple of years. It features a state-of-the-art refrigeration system that pumps a mixture of water and ethylene glycol beneath the track surface to keep the ice properly chilled. Each section of the track is continuously monitored to optimize the flow rate, temperature, and pressure of the refrigerant to keep the track at maximum performance while minimizing environmental impact.

According to the designers, it’s the first competition track to use a glycol-based refrigeration system, which should be more sustainable than the ammonia-based systems used elsewhere. For a sense of what a run is like, check out this skeleton driver POV run from the facility’s shakedown competition last year. (Image credit: LMSteel; video credit: tuff sledding)
