The Study of Fur & The Weight of Loss: Jaxie & NachoTheDog

This time-lapse takes a step back to document research into Procreate brushes and the creative process. It captures the desperate struggle to paint the face of Jaxie, our snow-white cat with red patches. It was a struggle, and I am not at all satisfied with the result; I will attempt this image again when I feel ready. Next to Jaxie is my little love, Nacho the dog, who left us on October 15, 2025 🖤 I miss him terribly. It is an immense loss for such a small, yet immense, creature. He was my 'quarter of a dog', an ironic nickname for his size, but his absence weighs more than a ton on my chest, taking my breath away every single day.

I started the day doing therapeutic art to release grief from 2025.

First we wrote out on the left what happened in 2025. On the right, we wrote how we felt. I cried my face off as I wrote about several losses. Then we were told to crumple up the paper + toss it.

Then we were told to draw our grief on another sheet of paper.

On a 3rd sheet, we were told to draw a tree with roots + write on the leaves what grief gave us to carry forward.
