Things I love about Mastodon (in no particular order):

- @georgepenney's #Spotted in Aotearoa New Zealand posts
- @DJDarren's #ThePlaylist radio show every Monday evening and the gang that gather there
- @psneeze's nightly "Get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow we..." missives
- The German photo hashtags #MeerMittwoch #FensterFreitag

But above all, the general soundness of the people I interact with daily and their tolerance for my ranting into the void.

@giflian that Riit track is a banger, thanks for putting it on #thePlaylist

@DJDarren a couple of theme suggestions for you to use orbl ignore as you see fit:

  • You used my "prison" suggestion, so if we've all now served our time, how about "freedom"?

  • And that made me think, who runs around shouting "freedom" all the time? Americans of course. And on July 4th this year the USA will have its 250th birthday. And whatever else we feel about America's recent (or not so recent) history, there's no denying its influence on popular music. So yeah, USA as a theme.

  • #ThePlaylist

@MrAndrewD @DJDarren @Nickiquote it’s almost an enticement to make #thePlaylist a video show that one, because the video is utterly brilliant.

Listening to my suggestion getting played out on #thePlaylist this week, it's occurred to me, due to the context, that Jim Henson and Derek Scott's* performance of Rowlf doing Cottleston Pie is informed by Tom Lehrer.

I mention the context, as I wasn't aware of Tom Lehrer before hearing him a number of times on the show. So hitting a few Reithian goals there, @DJDarren!

    * it took a lot of work to find out who the pianist was, as he goes uncredited on the music releases! https://muppet-stuff.blogspot.com/2015/03/meet-man-who-played-rowlfs-piano.html

Meet the man who played Rowlf's piano!

I have always absolutely loved Cake's cover of I Will Survive. It's such a creative and considered cover, it really brings so much new to the tune, rather than just a straight up replay.

    #nowPlaying #thePlaylist with @DJDarren, and it's Pudding Time, children!

I can't believe I'm listening to Michelle bloody Gayle (out of off of Eastenders), after the drumming I got for suggesting Hear'Say t'other week 😂

    #ThePlaylist – 108 – Puddin’ — #ThePlaylist

Behold the (knickerbocker) GLORY(ous) return of #ThePlaylist, where our theme this week is: Puddin’ So go ahead and spoil your dinner with the (ice) CREAM of musical selections, some of which are actually related to the idea of pudding. Or dessert, if you’re one of *those*. You’d be a (strawberry) FOOL to miss out! Click […]

@DJDarren Thank you for picking this theme!

My own research in the field/car wash has shown that Harder Better Faster Stronger by Daft Punk is the perfect car wash music, being funky disco robot music.

Also the database says you haven’t played it yet, improbably.

I was using Google to search for car-related songs for #theplaylist and the AI suggested The Tragically Hip's "Locked in the Trunk of a Car"

Which like, sure, I guess, technically.

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist, another guest theme, this time courtesy of @Nickiquote, who wants to hear *your*:

    Car Wash Songs

Will it be two hours of *that* song, or *that* song interspersed with its less-good cover? Well, it's up to you to suggest other tracks.

Use #ThePlaylistSuggestion so that my cheeky little bot can pick them and sling them at me. And the bot *always* aims for the face.
