"Before long it occurred to me to do what historians are professionally equipped to do. Live with a cluttered mental attic; run a spiritual antique shop; resist the impulse to throw anything away. Hang on after the avant-garde rejects. Save, shuffle, classify, enjoy the relics. Eventually shapes emerge. One learns to live with contradictions and paradoxes, but what is new about that in theology?”

Martin Marty in Theology Today, January 1972, p. 472.

@pmphillips @amv thanks, Yes. Still think it would be helpful to have #theologodons.

In this helpful index of various lists of #academics on #Mastodon there is not a #theologodons list for #theologians. @pmphillips Would you be able to set one up, please?

@aa4jq great idea. Thanks. Let’s go for #theologodons.

I've been digging deep into Carmelite spirituality lately, an exploration that was part of this year's formation plan. It's bearing a lot of fruit and I think I'll be ready - or readier - to tackle St. John of the Cross again soon. One reflection I came across last night:

"Carmelite spirituality is not apostolic *and* contemplative, it is apostolic *because* it is contemplative" - Paul-Marie of the Cross, OCD #theologodons
