The New Perry Mason 1x10 "The Case of the Jailed Justice" shout by RikerDonegal

**Andrew Duggan, Whit Bissell, Susan Howard, Clu Gulager, Tisha Sterling.** Cantankerous judge arrested for murder of son-in-law. He hires Mason but they don’t like each other. Really brings an edge to the story. It’s a brilliant episode. Story is elaborate but not far-fetched and the details of the crime are very, very clever. I had no idea until the final minute who did it. All performances great, particularly Susan Howard. The best episode. I’ve really grown to love Mason and the underhanded way he sometimes gets information. He’s a bit of a cold fish. No nonsense. And, boy, is he smart!! _Fall 1973: Aired by CBS on Sundays before Mannix. Against The FBI (ABC); The Wonderful World of Disney (NBC)._ 10/10

**Woodrow Parfrey.** One thing this show does really well is tell elaborate stories. Some are far-fetched, but not this one by Orville Hampton. It concerns an ex-basketball player recruited by a charity which turns out to corrupt. Lots of suspects. Engrossing. Show usually finds natural ways to integrate Mason into the story long before there’s a murder. _Fall 1973: Aired by CBS on Sundays before Mannix. Against it: The FBI (ABC); The Wonderful World of Disney (NBC)._ 8/10

Edward Winter, George Murdock. This is average stuff, but the cast is good and it’s very enjoyable to watch it play out. Regular Dane Clark has more to do than usual because the accused is his best friend. It was easy to spot the real killer from the start. Partly because of the casting and partly because they signposted it a bit too much. _Fall 1973: CBS aired The New Perry Mason in the first hour of Sunday prime time before Mannix. Against it, ABC had The FBI while NBC aired The Wonderful World of Disney._ 6/10
