I like 'The Manitou' (1978) despite the fact that it's a fairly flawed movie. There are some really interesting ideas and concepts on display but the movie never really deals with any depth what those ideas are.

Which is a pity because the focus on Native American mysticism is an interesting one and not something you see all that often.

I just rewatched 'The Manitou' (1978), which was better in my memories than actuality.

Based on Graham Masterson's book, at least he took the subject matter seriously.

The movie? Not so much. It's got some great ideas though little atmosphere and despite exploring some really interesting ideas comes off more campy than scary.

And casting Michael Ansara as a Native American – he was born in Syria – wouldn't go over too well these days. #genre #horror #themanitou #michaelansara #movies
