A lavish production set in a crowded late 19th century London, this #movie tells the gothic noir tale of an investigation into series of gruesome murders, along with the trial of an actress accused of murdering her husband who might be the serial killer.
What should be a twisted tale is undercut by an oversimplified investigative mechanic of handwriting comparison that overtakes the plot early on, but the terrific acting and layered atmosphere save this #film. π
I realise the movie was supposed to be dark and Gothic with time limitations, but Lizzie's turn to murder appears to be explained by the abuse by her mother, and, like, every man she encountered inc. in the found family acting group cuz they were all sex predators? π¬
A lil confused, so Inspector Kildare allows Lizzie to be executed for the murder of John Cree, while also pinning the Limehouse Golem murders on John Cree because:
- he felt sorry for Lizzie's life story?
- to deny her the satisfaction of infamy?
- his own shock?
See, I figured it was Lizzie cuz there were only 2 main characters, and there had to be a twist at the end. Meta deconstruction FTW!!!
I always knew Achilles' GF was up to no good!
Yeah, but Lizzie is the one who finished the play. π¬
"...my wife's duties..."
Oh my God! ππ€¦ββοΈ
This certainly is a rich production.
Dan sure isn't using his library voice while showing Lizzie around the freakin' library!
