This was the last album to feature Franz Nicolay on keyboards until he returned in 2016. The album features the bangers Sequestered in Memphis, Stay Positive, and Slapped Actress. And if you listen to my podcasts, now you know where I got my sign-off from one of my favorite bands.

Aaron S. VeenstraTwenty years ago today I shot this clip of #TheHoldSteady, just as their second album, Separation Sunday, was starting to gain traction. This was an acoustic in-store set at Sound Fix in #Brooklyn, which just happened to be when I was in town for a conference. It was my first time seeing them – not much later they were my favorite band, and I saw them another nine times over the next decade. This was a very talky set, mixing album cuts with old b-sides, but even without the big stacks or a big crowd the depth of Craig Finn's connection with the band's audience still stood out. I didn't take any pics during the set, so unfortunately all I have are low-light video stills.
