#TheCure construyó artesanalmente su aura de oscuridad con los primeros discos durante la consolidación del movimiento post punk apenas se consumió el estallido musical de 1976. Pero paradójicamente, esa opacidad sonora tuvo reconocimiento público a nivel internacional con la aparición de #TheHeadOnTheDoor que llegó a las bateas un día como el de hoy, pero de 1985. La peculiaridad se sostiene en que allí encontramos melodías más cálidas (#CloseToMe, #InBetweenDays) que ya habían sido esbozadas de manera aislada en publicaciones anteriores (#BoysDontCry, #LetsGoToBed, #TheLovecats, #TheCaterpillar). Esa amplitud le dio mayor riqueza al grupo y una variada paleta de sonidos sin renunciar a las atmósferas depresivas que pasaron a ser un atributo más. Solvencia que se confirmaría en discos posteriores
