The Dagger of Amon Ra DOS review

The Dagger of Amon Ra is a challenging graphic adventure game set in 1920s New York, featuring Laura Bow in a murder mystery at a museum.

Besides Space Quest IV, the only other Sierra game I know of at the moment with such severe palette reductions (along sometimes with other big visual changes) between the floppy & CD versions is EcoQuest 1. But there could be more!

More differences in graphics between the floppy & CD versions of Laura Bow 2.

This is apparently the result of the CD version including a Windows 3.1 port, and having to reserve around 20 colors or so for the Windows GUI, which required reducing the game palettes slightly.

Turns out Laura Bow 2 has some absolutely wild differences in the background art between the floppy & CD versions, on part with Space Quest 4 in some screens.

Almost all screens have at least some minor palette reduction on CD, but sometimes the changes are quite drastic.

Some concept art and color paintings for dialog portraits in The Dagger of Amon Ra, from an article in InterAction magazine, vol. 5 #1 (Spring 1992).

In image 1, I'm not sure who the character in the upper-right sketch evolved into.

In image 2, notice Dr. Myklos wearing a shirt & tie!
