THE BYRDS
The Notorious Byrd Brothers
1968 Canada pressing

Last spin of the night.

Unequivocally one of my three all-time favorite #60s albums.

This was the very first Byrds album I heard start to finish. My uncles (all 9 of them) all listened to country and folk music, but a few branched out into the more #psychedelic areas of those genres.

That’s where I first heard The Notorious Byrd Brothers. From my Uncle Ed, who sadly, passed away last week.

I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to hear this album without thinking about him, and how he taught me that they were much more than those few hit songs I heard on oldies and classic rock radio as a kid.

This album features a lot of different studio effects for the time, & it’s one of the first LPs to ever feature a Moog synth.

Gene Clark actually came back for a few weeks, & may or may NOT be on some backing vocals on 2 songs.

"Jesus Is Just Alright" is a #gospel song written by American singer Art Reynolds and first recorded by Reynolds' group, The Art Reynolds Singers, for their 1966 album, Tellin' It Like It Is. The song's title makes use of the American slang term "just alright", which during the 1960s was used to describe something that was considered #cool or hip. The song has been #covered by various bands and artists over the years, including #theByrds, #UndergroundSunshine.

Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you?”

It seems Ted Tocks posts never stray too far away from Bob Dylan. While searching for significant events in music history associated to this day I discovered that it was on this day fifty years ago…

Something Else from the Move is a five-track live EP by the English pop band the Move, released on 21 June 1968 through Regal Zonophone. The Move established themselves with a series of singles that reached the top-five in the UK singles chart, generating hype for an album. After rumours about a live LP began circulating, the Move's manager Tony Secunda pitched an idea about recording an EP of live performances at the Marquee Club in central London.

Reflecting the Move's setlist on stage, Something Else from the Move is exclusively made up of covers of songs by contemporary pop bands such as Love and 1950s singers such as Eddie Cochran. The EP has an eclectic blend between rockabilly and psychedelic music. - Wikipedia
