Un uomo iraniano e una donna, di nazionalità ancora ignota, sono stati arrestati dopo aver tentato di entrare nella base navale Faslane  in Scozia, che ospita i sottomarini nucleari britannici". La Royal Navy ha confermato gli arresti, dichiarando però di non rilasciare ulteriori informazioni per via delle indagini in corso. La base ospita i mezzi della flotta reale, compresi i quattro sottomarini lanciamissili balistici di classe Vanguard che trasportano i missili nucleari Trident e che sono incaricati di mantenere la deterrenza marrittima. Presto saranno sostituiti dai nuovi sottomarini classe Dreadnought dopo il 2030.

An Iranian man and a woman, of still unknown nationality, were arrested after attempting to enter the Faslane naval base in Scotland, which houses the British nuclear submarines. The Royal Navy has confirmed the arrests, stating however that it will not release further information due to ongoing investigations. The base hosts the Royal Fleet vessels, including the four Vanguard ballistic missile submarines which carry the Trident nuclear missiles and are responsible for maintaining the UK's nuclear deterrent. They will soon be replaced by the new Dreadnought class submarines after 2030.

Il primo ministro britannico, Keir Starmer, ha dichiarato che Londra rafforzerà la propria presenza militare nel Mediterraneo orientale. Il premier ha dichiarato che invierà a Cipro il cacciatorpediniere Hms Dragon, oltre a elicotteri dotati di capacità anti-drone. La scelta è giunta dopo un colloquio tra Starmer e il presidente dell’isola mediterranea, Nikos Christodoulides.
“Agiremo sempre nell’interesse del Regno Unito e dei nostri alleati”, queste le parole di Starmer per annunciare il potenziamento delle operazioni difensive britanniche nell’area. La Hms Dragon, un cacciatorpediniere Type 45, è l’unico assetto della Marina britannica in grado di intercettare e abbattere missili balistici. Il Guardian sottolinea che la nave, che partirà da Portsmouth intorno alle 22,15 di stasera, dovrebbe impiegare tra i 5 e i 7 giorni per raggiungere Cipro. L’imbarcazione militare, secondo quanto si legge sul sito della Royal Navy, è equipaggiata con missili con sistema Sea Viper, caratterizzati da un radar capace di tracciare e neutralizzare i missili nemici.
La scelta di Starmer giunge dopo l’annuncio della Francia di intensificare la presenza militare francese nel Mediterraneo e dopo l’attacco alla base Akrotiri, di proprietà della Gran Bretagna, sull’isola cipriota, che, secondo le prime ricostruzioni, dovrebbe essere stato portato a termine da Hezbollah, grazie all’uso di droni.

The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has stated that London will strengthen its military presence in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Prime Minister has announced that he will send the destroyer HMS Dragon to Cyprus, along with helicopters equipped with anti-drone capabilities. The decision came after a meeting between Starmer and the island president, Nikos Christodoulides.

“We will always act in the interest of the United Kingdom and our allies,” Starmer said to announce the strengthening of British defensive operations in the area. The HMS Dragon, a Type 45 destroyer, is the only asset of the British Navy capable of intercepting and destroying ballistic missiles. The Guardian notes that the ship, which will depart from Portsmouth around 10:15 PM tonight, should take between 5 and 7 days to reach Cyprus. The military vessel, according to the Royal Navy website, is equipped with missiles with the Sea Viper system, characterized by a radar capable of tracking and neutralizing enemy missiles.

Starmer’s decision comes after France’s announcement of intensifying its military presence in the Mediterranean and after the attack on the Akrotiri base, owned by Britain, on the Cypriot island, which, according to initial reconstructions, was carried out by Hezbollah, thanks to the use of drones.
