In all honesty, I’ve never been a huge fan of The Police. For many reasons.

However, I do love their debut album for how scruffy and ramshackle a lot of it sounds in comparison to everything else. There’s ZERO studio polish; it’s very twitchy, raw and almost nervous sounding.

Stewart Copeland is the true star on this album, and it’s not close. His drumming is so hyper and wired, and he would never sound like this on a Police album ever again.

My favorite song of theirs is here in “So Lonely”, what I’ve always cited as one of the great pop songs ever. Add “Next To You” and “Roxanne” to the mix, and you have more than enough to warrant owning this.

With the exception of a few tunes here and there, this is where my love for The Police starts and ends.
