I've never seen The People so divided as when somebody starts up with "The People United," and half the crowd goes with "will never be defeated," and the other half "never be divided."
This inability to commit to one or the other has always seemed to me to resonate with some deeper, perhaps fatal flaw within the anglophone US left, which, superficially, is concerned with the question of "Should it rhyme or should it be a direct translation," but would probably do better to ask the question "Should we come up with our own damn slogans instead of cribbing them from other movements?"
