He loses the secret maps and falls after a blackout, the sad decline of General Aguto.

A former U.S. Brigadier General of the American Army, Antonio Aguto Jr., who was tasked with overseeing U.S. military support to Kyiv, lost classified maps on a train in Europe and sustained a concussion after “excessive alcohol consumption” during a dinner in Ukraine. This is according to a 50-page report, dated March 12th and revealed by the Kyiv Independent, according to which the senior officer, head of the Security Assistance Group-Ukraine (SAG-U) based in Germany, violated security procedures in the handling of classified maps aboard a chartered train by the State Department.

The report, drawn up following three anonymous complaints, states that Aguto, during a trip to Kyiv in March 2024, improperly entrusted the custody of the maps to staff instead of a diplomatic courier, as required. Upon returning to Germany, it was discovered that the maps, classified as secret, had been lost and forgotten on a Ukrainian train. The valuable documents, stored in an unprotected cylindrical tube in violation of protocol, were returned the day after.

Concussion and Alcohol
Aguto took responsibility for the serious lapse in judgment, but, due to his excessive fondness for the bottle, he quickly found himself in trouble again. The report recalls another incident, which occurred on May 14, 2024, in which the general showed signs of "progressive decline" during a meeting with then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

The bizarre behavior displayed by Aguto at that time, the document explains, was due to a concussion sustained the previous evening in a state of inebriation. The general, it is learned, fell three times after a six-hour alcohol marathon during which he consumed a liter of ‘chacha’ alone, a Georgian distillate whose strength can exceed 70%.

Aguto was not getting drunk in his free time but was attending a business dinner in a restaurant with an unidentified colleague. Aguto left command of the SAG-U in August 2024, shortly before retiring from the army. It is unclear how voluntary the decision was to abandon a position too delicate to reconcile with such a significant propensity for alcoholism.

What it’s really like being Black (https://kyivindependent.com/what-its-really-like-being-black-in-russia/) in Russia

Kremlin state propaganda has long tried to promote the idea that people from Africa and the global Black diaspora can live free of discrimination in Russia, where they will be judged by their achievements and not their skin color — unlike in the West, which it portrays as plagued by racism.

But for many Black Russians and immigrants, this narrative has always clashed with their reality.

What it’s really like being Black in Russia

After facing police discrimination as a Black woman in the U.S., Francine Villa decided to return to her birth country, Russia, in 2019, searching for the safety America had denied her. A year later, she appeared in a Russian propaganda documentary “Black in the USSR,” saying that she “felt free” in Russia and could “walk outside and be safe.” But that illusion shattered in July, when she and her child were brutally attacked by neighbors who shouted racial slurs at them. “How much more of thi

in #TheKyivIndependent I found this bar chart showing the increase in drone strikes from May 2024 to June 2025. There was a slight decrease in April 25, which was almost cancelled out in May and HAS REACHED a new high in June.

Russia's war of annihilation against the civilian population, the attacks on civilian infrastructure, homes, schools, hospitals and playgrounds can only be described as terror. The aim is to bleed the Ukrainian population dry, to wear it down. These are crimes.
