Referendum on Justice: from career paths to the High Court, what could change?

On Sunday, March 22nd and Monday, March 23rd, a constitutional referendum on the Justice system will be held. The three main points are separation of careers, a dual CSM (Judicial College) with drawing lots, and the High Disciplinary Court. Those who are in favor of Yes speak of greater impartiality, transparency, and the end of factional logic within the judiciary. Those who are in favor of No, on the other hand, fear a weakening of the judiciary’s autonomy and that it would be more subject to political influence.

The referendum and the government’s propaganda about the “errors” of the judges

When it is said that with the reform magistrates will pay for their mistakes, it is omitted to consider that not every mistake is a source of professional or disciplinary responsibility. Nor are the Superior Councils or the High Court called upon to examine the correctness of a decision in the merits.
