AGI - Il presidente della Repubblica francese, Emmanuel Macron, ha visitato oggi la comunità di Sant'Egidio, nel cuore di Roma. Prima di raggiungere la sede della Comunità, il capo dell'Eliseo ha fatto una tappa nella basilica di santa Maria in Trastevere, uno dei luoghi simbolo del quartiere e punto di riferimento storico e spirituale per la stessa Sant'Egidio.
Ad accompagnare Macron per le vie di Trastevere sono stati il fondatore Andrea Riccardi e il presidente Marco Impagliazzo. "Si', sono qui per vedere i miei amici di Sant'Egidio", ha risposto Macron ai cronisti che gli chiedevano se la visita avesse anche lo scopo di lanciare un messaggio di pace.
Riccardi, Macron è un uomo di pace
"L'incontro con il Presidente Macron è andato molto bene ed è ormai una consuetudine: questo è il decimo. Naturalmente al centro ci sono state le attività di Sant'Egidio in Africa e l'aiuto all'Ucraina. Abbiamo discusso molto di Medio Oriente, di come aiutare il Libano in un momento cosi' difficile e drammatico. C'è stato uno scambio lungo e approfondito e anche un'analisi di quello che l'Europa può fare in questo momento". Lo ha detto il fondatore della Comunità di Sant'Egidio, Andrea Riccardi, a margine dell'incontro con il presidente francese Emmanuel Macron. "Sant'Egidio ha dato la sua esperienza sul terreno perché siamo in 60 Paesi del mondo. Vediamo la storia dal basso, le situazioni di crisi dal basso, quindi è stato molto interessante un confronto a questo proposito". Riccardi ha poi aggiunto di nuovo sul conflitto in Iran: "Il Presidente è favorevole alla tregua e segue con preoccupazione quello che sta avvenendo in Libano. Macron è un uomo di pace e, direi, le sue iniziative, soprattutto in Medio Oriente, sono iniziative di pace per porre fine a questa distruzione dell'equilibrio".
Macron visits the Community of Sant'Egidio

Before reaching the headquarters of the Community, the head of the Elysée Palace made a stop at the basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the symbolic places of the neighborhood and a historical and spiritual reference point for Sant'Egidio herself.

“The meeting with President Macron went very well and it is now a tradition: this is the tenth. Naturally, the focus was on the activities of Sant'Egidio in Africa and the aid to Ukraine. We discussed a lot about the Middle East, how to help Lebanon in such a difficult and dramatic moment. There was a long and in-depth exchange and also an analysis of what Europe can do at this moment.” This was said by the founder of the Sant'Egidio Community, Andrea Riccardi, on the sidelines of the meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. “Sant'Egidio has offered its experience on the ground because we are in 60 countries around the world. We see history from the bottom up, crisis situations from the bottom up, so it was very interesting to have a discussion about this.” Riccardi then added again about the conflict in Iran: “The President is favorable to a truce and is following with concern what is happening in Lebanon. Macron is a man of peace and, I would say, his initiatives, especially in the Middle East, are peace initiatives to end this destruction of the balance.”
