Domenica 15 marzo, un'ondata di proteste ha travolto l'India: residenti e partiti politici regionali hanno organizzato manifestazioni e blocchi stradali in diverse città, denunciando una grave carenza di gas da cucina aggravata dal conflitto in corso tra Stati Uniti, Israele e Iran. Le proteste scoppiano mentre l'India affronta la peggiore crisi energetica degli ultimi decenni; il governo è stato costretto a tagliare le forniture industriali nel tentativo di proteggere i consumi domestici ed evitare che le famiglie rimangano senza gas.

Da quando, il 28 febbraio scorso, gli Stati Uniti e Israele hanno lanciato una campagna di bombardamenti sull'Iran, Teheran ha quasi totalmente bloccato il traffico attraverso lo Stretto di Hormuz. Da questo passaggio strategico transita circa il 20% del petrolio mondiale e del gas naturale liquefatto trasportato via mare.Un portavoce del Ministero degli Esteri ha dichiarato sabato che l'India ha richiesto un passaggio sicuro per 22 delle sue navi rimaste bloccate a ovest dello Stretto, dopo che l'Iran ha concesso a poche imbarcazioni indiane di transitare, in una rara eccezione al blocco navale.

India, protests over gas shortages due to the US-Iran war

On Sunday, March 15th, a wave of protests swept across India: residents and regional political parties organized demonstrations and road blockades in several cities, denouncing a serious shortage of cooking gas exacerbated by the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. The protests erupted as India faced the worst energy crisis in decades; the government was forced to cut industrial supplies in an attempt to protect domestic consumption and prevent families from running out of gas.

Since February 28th, when the United States and Israel launched a bombing campaign against Iran, Tehran has almost completely blocked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas transported by sea passes through this strategic waterway. A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry stated on Saturday that India had requested a safe passage for 22 of its ships stranded to the west of the Strait, after Iran had granted a few Indian vessels passage, in a rare exception to the naval blockade.

Agi: La mappa dei 94mila italiani in Medio Oriente

AGI - Sono circa 94.800 gli italiani in Medio Oriente e nel Golfo Persico, di cui 9.400 turisti in Bahrein, Qatar, Emirati Arabi Uniti e Oman. Lo ha reso la Farnesina nel fornire un quadro preciso della presenza dei connazionali nella regione.
All'indomani dello scoppio del conflitto tra Usa e Iran, il ministero degli Esteri ha istituito la Task Force Golfo, che ha raddoppiato la capacità di risposta dell'Unità di Crisi, cui gli italiani che stanno cercando di rientrare possono rivolgersi per chiedere aiuto e che ha già ricevuto 13.500 chiamate, una media di 200 l'ora.
Per quanto riguarda il solo Golfo, 7.024 italiani si trovano negli Emirati Arabi Uniti, 1.256 in Oman, 1.009 in Qatar e 111 in Bahrein. A oggi, sono circa 2.500 i connazionali rientrati in Italia da Abu Dhabi, Riad e Muscat con l'assistenza della Farnesina. Questa mattina sono decollati da Muscat due voli diretti a Roma, con a bordo 249 persone.
