Definitely riding the struggle bus trying to fix this #Tektronix 4907 power supply. A pretty simple linear supply that blows a fuse 33% of the times you turn it on.

Things it's not:

  • Any of the loads
  • The two saltshaker-sized bulk capacitors
  • The crowbar on the +5V rail

Find the schematic on page 208 of this PDF if you'd like to play along...

An update on the lab floor renovation. The flooring is finished, and the lighting is installed. The door and electrical outlets are still missing. I could start planning the lab benches.
Soon the air conditioning will be installed.

Okay that worked, functional red power indicator now. But nothing on the serial port...

Let's fire up another old #Tektronix friend. RESET and CLOCK look good ... as does activity on the address lines. Doubled checked Minicom too.

There's clearly Stuff(tm) happening on the address lines so I think the Z80 is trying to boot.
Haven't fired up this old friend in years. The +5 output on the power supply should be perfect to smoketest the RC2014. #tektronix
I’d like to learn enough about lens system design to make an adapter to use this square format Instax camera as a scope camera for my cute little Tektronix 310A. #instax #oscilloscope #camera #tektronix #tektronix310a

With a working GPIB connection (thanks @vk2bea !), I'm able to read out the full error log from my Tektronix TDS754D.

ERROR: diagnostic test failure, digDataFormatDiag, ERROR!!BYTE mode, in demux 200 ,i= 7 memBaseAdr 0x7380010= data = 5600, expectedData[i] = 5500"

I'm suspecting (and hoping) this is a bad ram chip). I have a tenuous understanding of the whole system, but I'm only seeing capture errors on some sweep rates, and dependent on which / how many channels are active.
It's an utterly bad-ass instrument, and I'd love to get it back to 100%

This shelf is a _little_ high, but I liked the idea of fitting a 500 series scope under it. We’ll see if that plan holds.
I have to restrain myself from putting too much more stuff on here before I fasten the shelves and possibly put a finish on them. The network analyzer in particular is _heavy_ but it’s probably the beefiest thing going up there, so I wanted to do a deflection test. Turns out 1/4” steel brackets are strong.

I am not buying oscilloscopes anymore but my only portable (luggable) scope recently died, so I got something a lot smaller but still vintage: this cute Sony/Tektronix 335, from 1976 I believe.

Ah, the thrilling saga of an ancient, hulking #Tektronix beast that finally escaped the dusty to-do list dungeons! ⚔️ Apparently, someone thought it'd be a laugh to reanimate this #electronics fossil, only to realize lifting it requires more muscles than brains. 🏋️‍♂️💡 And as expected, this riveting #rescue #mission made it to... exactly zero comments. 🎉

🌘 七〇年代的向量繪圖工作站:Tektronix 4051 修復與解析
➤ 從積灰的儲存室到重現光芒的向量時代
https://justanotherelectronicsblog.com/?p=1429
