Another great lineup for this year’s Tectonics festival in Glasgow on 3 and 4 May 2025. One of the musical highlights of the year.

I didn’t take any pictures at day 1 of the Tectonics festival in Glasgow yesterday, but its varied roster of multiples and multitudes was as thrilling and surprising as always.
A highlight for me was the otherworldly performance by Elaine Mitchener: so powerful and magnetic, her voice reaching down into hidden reservoirs of melancholy and triumph across the three pieces she sang. Absolutely mesmerising.

Such a pleasure and privilege to see Limpe Fuchs for the opening performance of day 2 of the Tectonics 2023 festival in Glasgow. A mesmerising and very intimate performance from this 82 year old: 6 decades of taking sounds and instruments to their limits.

A couple of highlights of the first day of Tectonics 2023 in Glasgow today:
1. Carl Stone, with a blood-quickening and visceral set of his own unique sample-based music. Hard to believe he started doing this in the early 1970s at CalArts. What a journey.
2. Semay Wu, with a playful but also very intense improvised soundscape of many component parts that was just beautiful to watch. The great in the small.
