Today, an older #TechnologyConnections video about #typewriters: https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=YE0U018Copw
I am old enough to have used a typewriter in my youth. But as I am German, I was taught stuff in German.
A few years ago, when installing I-dont-remember-which-Linux, it wanted to auto-detect my keyboard and landed on [German, no dead keys]. Which I agreed with, as all my keys are in use.
So on every other Linux since then, I used that keyboard.
And when I restarted my french lessons, I wondered why the accents don't work. Must be a linux thing, just install a french keyboard.
NO! 🤦
Alec explained in passing that some keys (such as accents) don't advance the carriage and thus are "dead" keys.
And my 💡 went off. I feel so stupid and enlightened now 😅
