🌊✨ A massive thank you to @jerry and his fantastic blue-ocean.social server for introducing me to Bluesky! I've created a new account: @debby.blue-ocean.social 🚀💙
With a decentralized server, I'm excited to see how I can maintain my privacy while enjoying all the benefits Bluesky has to offer 🌐🔒. I'll be sure to keep you all updated on my journey and share my thoughts on this Twitter alternative!
The platform's emphasis on user autonomy is a breath of fresh air, and while it seems to have less open-source technology themes than Mastodon, the overall vibe is incredibly refreshing 🌈! I really appreciate the tech-nerdiness in the Fediverse, but working in tech, I think it's essential to keep in touch with people without programming knowledge to stay connected to the broader society 😅.
At first glance, Bluesky feels like the old Twitter but with a much more positive twist.
Here's to new beginnings and the future of decentralized social media! 🙌💬

Happy birthday to ARPANET, the forerunner of the modern internet! 53 years ago, the first message was sent over this pioneering network, paving the way for a world of interconnection and innovation.
As a tech enthusiast, I am constantly amazed by the ways the internet has transformed our lives, allowing us to communicate, learn and share ideas across boundaries and borders. From social media to e-commerce, from telemedicine to remote work, the internet has become an essential part of our daily routines, enabling us to connect with others and access a wealth of information at our fingertips.

The fundamental premise of human beings is to exercise control and dominance over others. It would have started as a biological imperative for survival. Now there is a strong tendency to be autocratic in almost every walk of life through a nexus of power and surveillance. This leads us to being corrupted and addicted either to fear or money (~ profit) or both at various degrees. Technology has always been a driver to this unlimited human greed. Any technology that initially gets deployed as a public good eventually gets architected and channelised to promote these aspects directly or indirectly and thus further evolves in the direction of profit and control by influencing economic policies, practices and information management. The public good that the technology generates remains as collateral benefits in the long term. The urge to profit, in the short term, from every possible transaction drives us crazy. The ecological damages (pollution, micro plastics, desertification, deforestation etc.) and climate impact due to creation of technology driven infrastructures are obviously overlooked. This has led to significant asymmetric distribution of wealth (as per this source) as summarised below.
1. half of the world's net wealth belongs to the top 1%.
2. top 10% of adults hold 85%, while the bottom 90% hold the remaining 15% of the world's total wealth.
3. top 30% of adults hold 97% of the total wealth.
Science-fiction writer Ted Chiang, whose work inspired the movie "Arrival," spoke at the 2023 GeekWire Summit in Seattle.
"Tech Zionism" brought to you by Balaji is the latest creepy libertarian idea from those pushing the Network State as a modern version of the ideas of people like Ayn Rand.

@404mediaco please keep an eye on these creeps. The tie ins to tech companies and their leaders/financiers is troubling. Makes you wonder what you supporting when you use some products and services. Not to mention who has access to your data.

went down a rabbit-hole about Marc Andreesen that took a detour into Jeffrey Epstein's MIT bribe-money, his rape ranch in New Mexico, and his dreams of a bespoke master race with his DNA. stories of bespoke billionaire futures brought me back to Andreessen and this 2014 effort to peddle his transhuman eugenics bullshit before he called it #techOptimism
