TBeam with the new 2.7beta. Great power consumption so far and better UI

#Meshtastic #Mesh #LoRa #Tbeam

Live tracking with 4× LilyGO T-Beam SUPREME units.

Each node transmits GPS coords every 10s, logs TX/RX to SD, and stays µs-disciplined to avoid collisions. A Semtech SX1303 sniffer on an RPi 4B captures all traffic → UDP → CSV → live web map with fading positions. Includes 49 second video (sped up 500%).

Structured Exercise 12 now documented:

What happens when 5 LoRa nodes transmit in rhythm?
I ran the experiment.

Working toward running #microReticulum natively on the LilyGO T-Beam SUPREME (ESP32-S3 + SX1262).

Hardware exercises complete (GPS, OLED, SD) and basic LoRa ping-pong via RadioLib.

Next: implement a proper Reticulum LoRa interface layer for SX1262 on ESP32-S3 — binding microReticulum’s interface abstraction to SPI/DIO/TCXO for full RNS operation.

I kinda fell into the #Meshtastic hole again, repeatedly, over the last week or so. Still not fully comprehending the whole thing, but I've at least been able to talk to someone a couple of kilometers away, so I'm making some progress 🙂 Here's a weird photo of my current client base setup - a #Lilygo #TBeam Supreme with a large 868 MHz antenna that I'm not 100% works, and a smaller 2 GHz wifi antenna. All hanging in some sort of limbo in my living room.

Spun up a #Prometheus instance on the basement #Kubernetes cluster, wrote a Meshtastic node exporter in #Python that would make seasoned developers cry, but it did the trick and I've got somewhere to check when testing antennas and moving the setup. Maybe I'll find the perfect spot and hardware combo before the #apocalypse.

Like I mentioned, I don't know a lot about #MeshNetworks, but I'd love to know what others think of the #MeshTastic systems. This seems to be a pretty up-to-date guide on how to set up a Mesh network (there wasn't a date on the piece, but they referenced QR codes). Personally, I'd rather go the #HamRadio route, but there's a few hoops to jump through for that (like the Ham radio test and licensing).

How to Set Up Meshtastic: A Beginner-Friendly Guide You Need

"Meshtastic enables encrypted communications over distances of 11 kilometers with uninterrupted line of sight. Setting up this powerful technology is surprisingly simple.

"A LILYGO® TTGO Meshtastic T-Beam board costs just $30 and ships with pre-installed software. The devices are equipped with AES256 encryption to ensure secure communications between authorized radios. A single 18650 battery powers these units for days without charging, and solar cells can keep them running indefinitely.

"This piece covers the complete setup process for #TBeam, #HeltecV3, and #TDeck hardware. You’ll learn everything about antenna installation, firmware updates, and message configuration to optimize your device’s performance in #OffGrid conditions."

None of my microusb cables seem to work with the #tbeam, so I soldered headers onto RX, TX, and ground pins, and then I was able to at least get debug messages through my USB to UART cable. After I put away my tools I discovered that I might need to bridge pin 0 to ground to get it into programming mode? It seems really hard to get info about my specific model, I spent too much time googling random serial numbers and trying things that didn't work.
