On a recent evening at a local taphouse I ordered a “pint” of a particular beer and got a bewildered stare. The server was trained to fetch 12s, 16s, 20s or the occasional 10.
“I’ll have a 16,” I said, drowning the temptation to joke, “You know what, make it an imperial 16!”
I don’t think I’ll ever get a convivial kick from inviting a friend out to “have a 16” but you never know.
