Sunny start to the day after a couple of cloudy ones. Snow on the Tararua ranges. This is the Waiohine river a major tributary of the Ruamahanga the main river of the Taratahi plains. A braided river now with stopbanks to reduce flooding. Close to Beau Vista orchard. #orchard #wairarapa #Aotearoa #NewZealand #Tararua #mountains #waiohine #river #Taratahi
Beau Vista Orchard is situated on the alluvial gravels of the Taranaki plains at the foot of the Tararua ranges. These plains are used for mixed farming now mainly dairy but inc some sheep beef and forage maize. So this is a common sight. #sheep #wairarapa #taratahi #Orchard
Wairarapa roads. Teepee Cider and Beau Vista orchard are on the alluvial West Taratahi plains close to here. To the west are the Tararua ranges ~ 1500 metres that are the dividing range in the southern part of the North Island or Te Ika-a-Māui which translates as the Fish of Māui. Māui was a legendary explorer and demigod who is said to have fished up the North Island from the sea. #wairarapa #Taratahi #orchard #cider
Murky weather in the Tararua ranges. I wou want to be tramping there now. The dry rivers are flowing again over the alluvial gravels of the Taratahi plains. We are dodging occasional showers in Beau Vista orchard that spread over too. With the prevailing NE winds coming over the ranges we thankfully are in a rain shadow and don’t get all the rain Kapiti does. #Tararuas #wairarapa #taratahi #weather
First snow on the Tararua ranges behind Beau Vista Orchard and TeePee Cider. Chilly start again to the day. #cidery #orchard #tararuaranges #Wairarapa #taratahi

Tui checking out the flaxes at Beau Vista Orchards. Since we planted the orchard and use organic methods the native wildlife has increased. #tui #aotearoa #taratahi #flax
