Late night golf a few weeks ago.

Usually I'm not interested in photographing tulips because they are, you know, a bit of a cliche, but I kinda ran out of other options yesterday. Late in the evening, I walked to a mansion in Tali to see if the setting sun could offer anything interesting but I felt that I arrived there too late – the sun was already touching the treeline in the horizon. I looked around and noticed these tulips. The sun still managed to illuminate them through trees. Then I looked at the sun, and then the tulips again...

"Alright, let's give it a go."

It is not my worst tulip photo.

After finishing Saturday chores I went for an evening walk around the neighborhood. The weather is getting warmer, and the snow we got two days ago is thankfully gone now. I hope I don't see more snow until November. But now that I have said that, it'll probably snow in May 😮‍💨

Some of the photos I took today turned out okayish. Streets and people before and after sunset. A Norway maple seedling rising from leaf litter. I saw four Eurasian curlews and even managed to get my first photo of them. Sure, they are just silhouettes in the sky, but I like the photo. The setting sun however… I tried to get a good photo of the sunset, but unfortunately I was not able to find any neat compositions before the sun went below the treeline. Oh well, maybe next time.

I photographed flowers and sunshine the other day... Then the winter barges in and gives you the finger. At least there was something interesting to photograph tonight. No such thing as bad weather and so on, they say.

I have been somewhat disappointed with my recent photos, so I have not been interested in picking up my camera for a while. But today I showed those thoughts (and myself) the door and went for a walk. I'm glad I did! Look who I found almost immediately running back and forth on a path :) The white wagtail cheered me up quite a lot and I started to "see" photos again: buildings, birdwatchers, lesser spotted woodpeckers, common mergansers, fresh bird cherry leaves, bumblebee queens and so on.

The last few days of March in Helsinki – sunshine, what's left of snow, coltsfoots, common goldeneyes, silver birches and people in a landscape that looks like... well... that.

Today turned out to be a pretty decent day weather-wise. I even felt the warmth of the sun on my face – when the cold wind was courteous enough to stop blowing for a second. Is that a Christmas tree in the river? I think so. A few spiders had also noticed the sun. It's wonderful to see bugs moving on the ground after the winter. The little things in life etc... And floofy tawny owl chicks :) I hope they manage to elude goshawks.

Dreary, fog and drizzle in Helsinki today. But it's fine with me in late February :) I heard birds singing, and the days are getting longer – about 5-6 minutes more daylight every day. Yeah, I keep track of it. I wandered around the misty Pitäjänmäki and Tali neighborhoods, looking at stuff: vacant land, tramstops, WW1-era fortifications, people looking at me, kids playing football/soccer, golf courses, outdoor gyms etc.
