I was recently craving Dong Ding oolong, so I had Nari Tea's one, made from the Si Ji Chun cultivar in Nantou, Taiwan 🏔️

The dry leaf aroma reminded me of chocolate cereals in rich milk, as well as orange peel and dark honey.
The tea broth aroma was floral (lilac) and slightly milky, and the tea itself tasted of floral honey, with mineral and roasted notes.

It's sometime hard for me to taste the charcoal roast in a tea, but I've been trying to pay more attention to it when drinking tea lately, and this time I think I was able to grasp it.

Fun fact : I drank Nari's Dong Ding for the first time last December, and when I went back to check my notes, I saw that I had already noticed the chocolate cereals aroma in the dry leaves back then! That's such a specific one, I wouldn't have expected to get it consistently, but I did! 🍫

I was gifted this rather amazing tea, apparently sourced by liquidproust.com, an Anaerobic Roasted Ruby Oolong, this one made to really bring out the GABA in the tea. In short, it's delightful. I'm only 5 steeps in and I'm happily medicating my way through day job stress.

Also how about that business name, though. Nice.

People sometimes ask me for teas with strong fruit notes, and now that I've tried Nari's 2019 aged GABA oolong from Meishan, Taiwan, I'll know what to serve them!

Already the dry leaves have an incredible aroma: dry strawberries, raisins, watermelon and stone fruits 🍓🍉
The tea broth smells both fruity and floral, with notes of honey and cooked oranges 🍊
The tea tastes sweet, is full bodied and round, with a fresh after taste like pine needles. This keeps the overall experience balanced, without an overly sweet feeling afterwards.

I know GABA oolongs often taste like cherries, and I was surprised to not find this taste here. I think the aging also helped making it so smooth and sweet!

This Bihu High Mountain Qing Xin Oolong from Nari Tea felt very refreshing during the few hot days we had last week!

The dry leaves had a lovely creamy, milk chocolate and dry apricot aroma, which transformed into a sweet peach and floral flavor once the tea was brewed. It was very smooth and well balanced!

I brewed it with 3.2g/80ml in a gaiwan at 95°C for ~30 sec to start. I was able to brew it many time and it held up very well!

(Note: at any one time between my mom and me we have maybe at least 8 different teas in rotation... I might have missed a few in my mental count.)This is one of my favourites - Taiwanese milky oolong! It has a few different names: Formosa Tea #12 or Taiwan Tea No. Twelve or some variation of this Jin Xuan or King Hsuan oolong. Both are renderings of 金萱 jīn xuān or "gold daylily". The fun world of phonetics! 奶香 nǎi xiāng oolong. Literally "milky fragrance/aroma". Authentic jinxuan oolong has no milk in it - it's just the magic of tea cultivation and prep - so for those with dairy allergies and intolerances yearning for milky desserts and milk tea this can be a lovely treat.This is JUST MAKE Taiwan Tea's King Hsuan Oolong that I picked up from Maeli Market a while back and have been waiting all this time to enjoy it. As soon as you open the container, the little tea leaf pearls have that lovely milky scent. I steeped it at about 75 degrees Celsius mainly because the water was already boiled and I didn't want to reboil (I otherwise would normally have done around 90 degrees for this). I always think of Jinxuan like caramel pudding turned into a lovely light liquid/tea form. This one has a very noticeable floral scent to it as well. Not that it's super in your face, but that it's definitely palpable compared to my memories of the last time I had jinxuan (not this specific brand)! I had it with brunch - a soft poached eggs benedict with home fries. No photo, but just imagine a messy chaos of tender jiggly egg white and egg yolk oozing over bacon and a toasty-edged chewy English muffin pad with little pools of hollandaise sauce in its air pockets, with potatoes soaked in all that luxurious richness and drizzled with tangy ketchup. Slurp slurp nom nom. Soooo good.
