"Many proteins that can drive the formation of synaptic junctions share a similar property—they form strong bonds across the synapse and result in adhesive interactions. Using bacterial proteins not found in the mammalian nervous system, we engineered new adhesion molecules to test whether such adhesion is sufficient to drive the organization of synaptic junctions."
