I've been cycling to work for a year now. It is quite long (15 km x 2), but I've got an electric cycle, and most days it still gives more than it takes, like spotting this crow.

But, winter is tougher, I won't lie. Esp. the wind here in the western part of Norway can be unfriendly. I've bought a new battery for the coming winter, and I'll invest in a pair of googles, so I will be better prepared than last year.
And what has that to do with the crow?

If you asked me why I cycle I am not sure I could answer. You can steal my car, but if you steal my cycle I will howl - I did last time that happened in 2019. I have been cycling for almost 50 years, some years a lot, some others less. Cycling is part of my identity, who I am, I guess.

And the crow?

All of you following Gary Stevenson on YouTube saw what happened in his last video. He was brought to tears when he discovered the #taxwealthnotwork sticker out cycling. The cycle is the least important thing here of course, but seing, noticing, discovering the minute details of the city we live in is what gives cycling a perspective on life in general.
Most people need to travel by bus, tram, or car to get to their place, I am very content about being able to cycle to work, to the library, to the forest or the fjord or the cinema or ... cycling is part of the goal. Cycling is physical and three dimensional and cold and scary at times. But I move my own body.
I smiled when I discovered this crow, I felt something, it brought me happiness. Maybe that is why I cycle, to feel something when in movement. To see the smallness instead of the bigness? To feel being part of something minute instead of not feeling anything?
Not sure. My goal in life is to die cycling.

And by the way, I love crows, I can sing three songs where the crow is the main person.

Never wrong with some cycle art. From Motala - where the Vättern rundt («Cycling around the lake Vättern») starts.

Sweden is divided in two by a channel going east to west, Göta kanal. Like in England it used to be for commerce, for a brief period. Today there is a bicycle route all the way along.
In Motala, approx. in the middle, there is even a ferry to get across if your goal is Stockholm. Or Gothenburg the other way around.

PS The common name for the channel is not Göta kanal, but “skilsmisse diket”. I guess it is tougher work being on a yacht sailing at 15 km/h than cycling at 20.

So thankful for all the small roads, for farmers keeping the landscape open, so I can cycle everywhere, like in - everywhere.
I love driving, but I love cycling even more.

Sykkelliv: 12 mil med denne gjengen i dag. Nydelig vårvær i november. Det funket med kortbukser.
Alle bilistene er på senteret, vi sykler på småveier nesten uten trafikk.
Fint å kjennet at den flotte dagen kom til nytte!
