Puget Sound has crabs.

An invasive species of European green crabs, “one of the world’s most harmful marine species,” has been detected in the Salish Sea. They “damage bed sediments, leading to the loss of eelgrass, an essential habitat for Dungeness crab and Pacific salmon.”

The Tulalip Tribes reported “detection of a green crab in the southern Whidbey Basin at Mission Beach” earlier this year.

Get outta here, crabbies!

US-Bahngesellschaft muss indigenem Stamm Millionen zahlen | Bahnblogstelle

Unbefugte Rohöl-Transporte durch ein indigenes Reservat kosten eine texanische Bahngesellschaft Hunderte Millionen US-Dollar. Dabei ist das Urteil des zuständigen Richters wohl noch milde ausgefallen.

Tribes 101: About the Native nations that share geography with Washington state

In upholding treaties as part of the “supreme Law of the Land,” the Boldt Decision of 1974 reaffirmed treaty law and tribal sovereignty — concepts still not universally understood.

I know it’s hard to make local politics exciting, but this article about #Skagit river tidegate & fish habitat policy is trying to pit #Swinomish, Seattle City Light & National Marine Fisheries Service against other stakeholder groups without seeming to speak to half of them. Which is ironic for a caomplaint that amounts to “folks aren’t talking to each other.”

Battle for the Skagit: Seattle City Light and a River to Fight Over

Alaska participates in Indigenous aquaculture gathering - Alaska Native News

In June, members of the Indigenous Aquaculture Collaborative Network, including citizens from Alaska Native tribes, traveled to Washington state to participate in the 2023 Salish Summit.
