Swastika and SS insignia on the birthday cake, the pastry shop owner: “The client wanted to pull a prank on his son.” Social storm.

The image of a birthday cake with a swastika and SS symbols posted on Instagram went viral within a few minutes. It happened in Matera, where the pastry shop Note di Gusto shared the photo of the cake made for a 19th birthday on social media, triggering a landslide of criticism and indignant comments regarding the presence of offensive symbols. Faced with the criticism, the owner, Alessandro Cirimelli, intervened with public apologies: “It was a post made with lightness and speed, without the proper reflection.”

“We apologize for the publication of the post.”

Cirimelli then distanced himself from the content of the cake: “Clearly, we distance ourselves from the content and apologize for publishing a post that we do not share in our content.” According to reports, the pastry shop had only considered the aesthetic aspect of the creation, without considering the meaning of the symbols used. “We naively thought about the artistic part of the cake, without thinking about the message hidden behind it,” Cirimelli added. “The client simply wanted to pull a prank on his son, but we didn't know what it was. We apologize,” the owner concluded.

The #BBC was not #antifascist. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1938 #JoachimVonRibbentrop was on a visit to Britain to ensure #appeasement continued, when he met with the Beeb's director #JohnReith. Reith, an ardent admirer of #Hitler & #Nazism, offered to fly the #swastika over BBC HQ.

"In his new #YouTube special, “Morbidly Jewish,” #RaananHershberg explains that #Germany has changed so much since #WorldWarII, you can now be imprisoned there for drawing a #swastika. “Even though they are no longer #Nazis,” he said, taking a beat, “they are kind of being Nazis about it.”

Nazi #jokes have a long tradition in #Jewish #comedy, flexible enough to include self-sabotaging Broadway musicals and stern soup salesmen. But what makes this one unusual — and gleefully perverse — is that it’s a Nazi joke about overreacting to #antisemitism. That’s a twist.

#Hershberg has become one of the most reliably #funny #standups working today, thanks to hard #punchlines without sentiment or didacticism. With Hershberg an often unreliable narrator of his own perspective, his most ambitious, often raunchy jokes lean on subtext and metaphor rather than thesis statements. His latest release captures a strain of anguish among #Jews right now."

At a Charged Time for Jewish Culture, Stand-ups Confront the Moment

Not so fast. A new special from Raanan Hershberg shows how charged times can make for funnier jokes involving anxiety over Israel, Gaza and antisemitism.

The New York Times

"Supporters have rallied around #Charlotte’s #Jewish community after signs with a #swastika and #noose were found at #ShalomPark Tuesday morning.

While the images and words were upsetting, #JewishFederation of Greater Charlotte CEO #AdamKolett said he’s been comforted by the solidarity expressed by many with Charlotte’s Jewish community.

“We are grateful when public leaders and educators and law enforcement and our neighbors can stand with us in protection of religious freedoms,” Kolett said Wednesday."

Lol. Why are we always grateful for the lowest common denominator of acting like a human to Jews? We really need new institutional leaders.

I did not want to trigger guardrails, so asked for "Norse, Ancient European" symbols...but even the #GenAI got the Sans Serif #Swastika right!
