Origin of the rule that swap size should be 2x of the physical memory

I can trace this recommendation that swap should be twice the size of the physical memory as far back as 1989, see SunOS 4 installation manual, page 37, but I wonder if there was ever any technical

Why don't Linux distributions enable zswap or zram by default, especially when swap space is on an SSD?

en lisant les releases notes de #NixOS 24.11, j'ai découvert ce nouveau service #SwapSpace

I see that my new install of Linux Mint on my #SSD put in swap space, and I may disable it. My system has a bunch of RAM, and probably doesn't need it. Also, having swap space on an SSD can damage the drive. #SwapSpace
