"..all that is left to be done..." takes time ,of course!
2/3 On the other side I have recessed the hinges into the left hand part of the frame. So the detail of each of the hinges is not entirely visible but has not been removed completely.
Should we ever use these windows somewhere else then the hinges can be reused as they are.
1/3 The oldest of the windows that make up our recycled window wall have a lovely detail. The hinges are part of the iron corner supports.
As the hinges stick out it would have been easiest just to angle grind them off thus simplifying fitting them into the frame.
But in doing so the craftsmanship and the way that the hinges had been made would have been lost forever.
The hinges in the right hand window of the pair are now at the join of the two windows. So that this detail is visible to all who take the time to notice it.
Serendipity...
...is when two windows rescued from the tip, together with three vertical pieces of wood of the size chosen at a different point in time to make the wall, fit like a glove in the space they are supposed to fill.
No planing, easing or fettling required.
