Terrorism and Surveillance

Let me begin with an inexorable truth: I am not a terrorist. Now that I have that out of the way, let me tell you another truth. And, yes, I know this will sound paranoid. I am not paranoid. I am a…

After setting up DNS over HTTPS, got curious how DNS leak test tools, which discover your DNS resolver, such as Browser Leaks, work

Turns out, it's quite clever setup: while you are visiting browserleaks.com website, in the background it queries a number of hostnames generated especially for you, such as 9d0pafrc5tnu.dns4.browserleaks.net, 0zfannouveb4.dns4.browserleaks.org and so on.

Because the website generates those hostnames specifically for your session, it is able to associate your external IP to the hostnames you attempt to resolve.

Now because site operators controls authoritative name servers behind those generated hostnames - specifically ns2.browserleaks.net and ns1.browserleaks.net (also with .org), from logs they can check what exact DNS resolver asked for those unique hostnames.

Simply matching a resolver DNS that attempted to resolve those unique hostnames is enough to link it to your visit of a website session - it is often going to be the resolver of your internet service or virtual private network provider, unless you've explicitly changed your resolver to something else. Still, easily visible to authoritative DNS server.

Voila! No magic, just simple, nice setup

Just think of how many fingerprinting schemes can big techs carry out to track you across the internet with vast compute resources available to them...

Border Patrol monitors US drivers and detains Americans for ‘suspicious’ travel

The U.S. Border Patrol is monitoring millions of American drivers nationwide in a secretive program to identify and detain people whose travel patterns it deems suspicious. The Associated Press has found that the predictive intelligence program has resulted in people being stopped, searched, and in some cases arrested. A network of cameras scans and records vehicle license plate information, and an algorithm flags vehicles deemed suspicious based on where they came from, where they were going, and which route they took. Federal agents in turn may then flag local law enforcement. The Border Patrol’s parent agency said they use license plate readers to help identify threats and disrupt criminal networks and are governed by "federal law and constitutional protections.”

Worth adding here that the vast majority, if not all, Linux distributions have built in storage encryption, will run very well on older hardware (even some old Chromebooks) and the entire operating system comes to the user free of cost and free of surveillance.

I don't know how many of my readers are Canadian, but I'm going to quickly share this article anyway because I think it's pretty indicative of the lack of accountability and militant "us against them" attitude of police all over the Pig Empire. A Canadian criminal defense lawyer named Tom Engel filed a Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy request (similar to our FOIA) and discovered that Edmonton Police Service had been formally monitoring his social media posts for criticizing the department's (extremely poor) performance of their duties. Unsurprisingly, the EPS tried to dodge the FOIP request but when Engel finally did get ahold of his file, it became clear that the pigs just didn't like being criticized and were looking for reasons to harass this guy.

Edmonton Police Tracked a Critic’s Social Media

In the internal document, dated April 12, 2022, Det. Alex Thomas of the threat assessment unit tells a staff sergeant in investigative services that Brezinski ordered the monitoring of Engel, whom he refers to as an “anti-police advocate,” after he made two posts on March 15, 2022, that named officers involved in a shooting.

“There were no threats to harm the members or any personal information about them in the posts,” Thomas wrote.

“However subsequent posts by Engel involved a variety of ‘hot button’ or controversial topics, some of which include COVID-19 and vaccine mandates, Edmonton Oilers, RCMP and the provincial government.”

Thomas added that Engel’s Facebook “did not have any inflammatory statements about police.”

Nonetheless, Thomas said they would continue to monitor Engel’s social media accounts for two more weeks in case “anti-police supporters may encourage others to ‘dox’ the members involved.” They closed the file after finding nothing of note."

This article takes great pains to note that Engel isn't "anti-police" and is in fact just a reformer, but the truth is that's very much besides the point; it's not *illegal* to criticize the police, nor is it against the law to be "anti-police." This guy has participated in government reviews of the rules and regulations governing police, has never threatened police officers, and has never committed a crime in the course of advocating for police reform; they just didn't like the fact that he exposed what a bunch of chucklefuck assclowns the EPS is. You can tell the whole thing is bullshit because even in their official documentation the cops were trying to say that posts about the Edmonton Oilers (a hockey team) justified their surveillance. Please keep in mind that Engel is literally a criminal defense lawyer, so if they're surveilling him for legally-protected criticism of the EPS you can damn well imagine what they're doing to actual police abolitionists and activists.

The obvious truth here is the one only hinted at in the article; as police states all across the Pig Empire invest more power and surveillance technology in the hands of poorly regulated law enforcement officers, the cops have openly embraced the idea that if you're not with them, you're against them and despite having no legal authority to do so, they're gonna spy on you and harass you as punishment. The murderpigs in our society are quite simply the biggest gang around, and given the lack of oversight for their activities, they really don't care if you know that. This kinda shit can't be reformed, but the reality is nobody in power wants it to be reformed anyway - that's why police budgets keep increasing, and militarization of law enforcement continues unabated, no matter how many crimes and civil rights violations these murderpigs commit.
