Gutted for Cameron Steel, who has announced his immediate retirement from cricket due to injuries. Hope that his positive presence isn't lost to the game completely.

Bowls a mean googly, plenty of Division 1 batters couldn't pick it. Go well, lad!

Cameron Steel forced to retire with immediate effect - Kia Oval

Cam Steel has been forced to retire from professional cricket due to injury, effective immediately. The all-rounder won three titles with Surrey.

Ethan Bamber has bowled well this morning and Dan Lawrence tries to drive at one and edges from the former Middlesex bowler to Beau Webster in the slips.

Poor shot in challenging conditions and with lunch coming.

Lawrence goes for 5, Surrey go to lunch at 61/4.

Lovely to see spectators allowed on the outfield.

Ollie Pope lbw to Ethan Bamber but that wicket comes after Ed Barnard gave Ollie a right working over.

Mike Taylor called it, mentioning Barnard v Pope at The Kia Oval last summer. Today he got an edge behind dropped by Kai Smith as he landed and a no-shot lbw appeal that I'd have given but the umpire didn't.

It's a green pitch which I'd fancy a bowl on.

BBC Radio London's Mark Church and BBC Radio WM's Mike Taylor commentating on Warwickshire v Surrey. Lovely stuff.

Delighted that Alec Stewart is resuming his role as Director of Men's Cricket at Surrey CCC.

Always immaculate, articulate and considered, Alec is a club legend and always goes with the good wishes of Surrey members and supporters.

Full 2026 county fixture list revealed

Fixtures for the Rothesay County Championship, Metro Bank One Day Cups and Toyota Disability Premier League have been announced.

The English cricket season is over. Nottinghamshire are deserving Men's County Champions and Surrey fell short at the second last, to the disappointment of all involved with the Club, players, members and supporters.

Congratulations to Notts and to Peter Moores. The higher profile aspects of coaching life have been written about in many ways, oft uncomplimentary in tone. But County Championship titles at three different counties is not to be mocked or slated.

From a Surrey perspective, it's human nature to pick out a moment where everything started to go wrong and blame it on that but let's enjoy winning 3 consecutive County Championship titles and almost getting to four. There are good things happening at the Club under Gareth Batty and Alec Stewart.

This piece from BBC Sport airing the thoughts of Durham CCC's CEO is interesting - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cnvr9yl0vnqo

I don't know about "perplexed". Isn't there a point where you realise that things aren't going well so changes and/or preparation need to be made?

I feel for Durham. Last time they were relegated it was thanks to internal politics at the then management of the ECB, for which I will never forgive those whose public and private utterances caused this.

It would have been redemption and revenge served cold if Durham had got the draw they needed to send Hampshire down to Division 2. It was in their hands to save themselves and relegate Hampshire.

But they didn't.

And that will hurt them like hell.

Durham: CEO Tim Bostock 'perplexed' by club's relegation

Durham were relegated from Division One after a shock collapse on the final day, leaving chief executive Tim Bostock 'perplexed'.

Apparently #SkySports are showing the #CountyChampionship fixture between #Surrey and #Nottinghamshire this week, so presumably it will not be on the #SurreyCCC YouTube stream. It's not showing up on the #WillowTV schedule yet (they carried Sky's feed of the T20 Blast), but hopefully the information just hasn't percolated through yet. (I did email Willow to ask.) #cricket #CountyCricket #SurreyvNotts
Sad News about the passing of England Cricket Legend Graham Thorpe at only 55 😭 who can ever forget Nasser Hussain and Graham Thorpe at the crease as England beat Pakistan in the Karachi darkness in 2000 to earn a memorable 1-0 series win and the first series win in Pakistan since 1961/62 ❤️
