This week at #acpgbi2023 I'll be delivering talks on

- cohort study on management of #pilonidalsinus. Close to 700 patients followed up for 6 months after surgery. Findings are eye opening.

- development of a #PROM for gastrointestinal recovery after #surgery. We have a nice 15 item tool that is ready to deploy in practice/research. It covers things we often don't think to ask our patients.

Nice to log in and check recruitment databases today:

AFAR (cohort screening for AF following elective #colorectalcancer #surgery has finally hit 10% recruitment after a long covid induced hiatus. 72/720...

PRODIGI ( #PROM for gut recovery after surgery) now has 196/280 recruits in round 3.

All in all very positive day for #surgicalresearch.

About to give my talk on #sbo at the Danish Surgical Society meeting #dks2022. Has made me reappraise some of the evidence and my convictions on what we should be doing.

For one of the most common surgical emergencies, our evidence base remains abysmal.

There is a path to make things better, including stratification and personalisation or care, but this will take #collaboration and time.
