I keep my ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 modem in my TV cabinet next to my MikroTik hAP ac3 router, which sits between my work desk (two monitors, speakers, mouse, and keyboard) and computer and wireless access point (NETGEAR WAX 202 running OpenWrt). I previously only had two electrical outlets behind my desk, attached to which I had two Belkin surge protectors. I recently received two new outlets behind my computer. Accordingly, I moved my primary surge protector, a Belkin SP with 12 outlets (8 rotating), coaxial in/out, and two RJ11 ports, to one of the new outlets behind my computer. After about 24 hours, it occurred to me that I could (probably) connect my main internet coaxial cable to the “in” and run a second cable from the “out” to my modem (or so I assumed, I had not previously considered it since the main coaxial cable would not have reached the surge protector before I received new outlets). I ordered a new coaxial cable (Monoprice brand to match my ethernet cables) and set it up. It works. While I doubt that I will need the surge protection, this is a boon for “cord management” purposes since I no longer have to run the main coaxial cable over my computer and into the TV cabinet (the power strip is on the bottom shelf of the table with my computer and access point).
