Una tregua di 32 ore in occasione della Pasqua ortodossa. È la minuscola concessione arrivata dal presidente russo Vladimir Putin all’Ucraina.
La decisione è stata comunicata giovedì in una nota ufficiale del Cremlino in cui si evidenzia che “per decisione del Comandante Supremo, Vladimir Putin, in occasione della prossima festività della Pasqua ortodossa viene dichiarato un cessate il fuoco dalle ore 16 dell’11 aprile fino alla fine della giornata del 12 aprile”.
Un annuncio accolto positivamente dal leader ucraino Volodymyr Zelensky, che su X a stretto giro ha ricordato che l’Ucraina “ha dichiarato più volte che siamo pronti a misure simmetriche”. “Quest’anno abbiamo proposto una tregua durante le festività pasquali e agiremo di conseguenza. Le persone hanno bisogno di una Pasqua senza minacce e di un reale progresso verso la pace, e la Russia ha la possibilità di non tornare ad attaccare dopo le festività”, ha sottolineato il presidente di Kiev.
È questa la speranza di Zelensky, l’auspicio che la Russia scelga la via della de-escalation: in cambio il presidente ucraino “offre” un incontro trilaterale, alla presenza degli Stati Uniti. La previsione del leader ucraino è che “gli americani non concederanno a nessuno più tempo per il dialogo” perché “con l’inizio dell’estate gli Stati Uniti si concentreranno sui loro processi interni, sulle elezioni. E credo che abbiano una sorta di scadenza politica interna, intorno ad agosto”.
Ma in realtà su questo fronte è sempre Mosca a voler allontanare ipotesi di progressi sul fronte di un negoziato di pace più ampio e soprattutto duraturo. L’annuncio di Putin di giovedì non era stato concordato in anticipo né con l’Ucraina né con gli Stati Uniti, ha sottolineato oggi il suo portavoce Dmitry Peskov.
Uno scenario dunque che per ora resta lontano, così come sono ben poche le speranza di un esito positivo della tregua annunciata da Putin: lo scorso anno, durante le celebrazioni pasquali, il cessate il fuoco di 30 ore si è rivelato inefficace. Entrambe le parti si erano accusate a vicenda di aver violato il cessate il fuoco, così come analogo sorte era toccata all’ultima tregua proclamata per l’ottantesimo anniversario della Giornata della Vittoria, segnata da centinaia di violazioni.

And I believe they have some kind of internal political deadline, around August.”

But in reality, on this front it is always Moscow that wants to dispel ideas of progress on the front of a broader and especially longer-lasting peace negotiation. The announcement by Putin on Thursday had not been agreed upon in advance with Ukraine or the United States, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized today.

A scenario therefore that for now remains far away, as few are the hopes of a positive outcome of the truce announced by Putin: last year, during the celebrations of Easter, the 30-hour ceasefire proved ineffective. Both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire, as an analogous fate befell the last truce proclaimed for the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, marked by hundreds of violations.
