Steve Reed: stop the industrial fishing frenzy

All the #SuperTrawlers were operating legally despite the #UKgovernment having the power to ban them from fishing in its waters since leaving the #EU.

🔴 Most of the vessels are foreign-owned.

🔴 Most of their catch isn’t even sold in the UK.

🔴 The government promised to protect 30% of UK waters by 2030, yet #MPAs remain unprotected.

A new #GreenpeaceUK investigation exposed a brutal reality: since #Brexit, giant #SuperTrawlers have spent 37,000 hours fishing inside the #UK ’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). That’s the equivalent of 4 years and 3 months killing every single hour a day. Destroying #habitats and wiping out #fish populations, all while the UK government does nothing to stop them.

The new government must use its landslide majority to mend the damage to jobs and fish populations caused by neglect

#SeaShepherd Global has released footage and images of large industrial #krill #supertrawlers, once again #trawling in large pods of #whales off the #Antarctic Peninsula.
100 per cent of #Australian pharmacies surveyed carried krill oil products from the Antarctic and that Biomar, a #fish feed producer in Wesley Vale, #Tasmania, used up to 1200 tons of krill meal per year. This is the equivalent of 1 billion individual krill. #fishfarming #sustainability
