#superCargo bike trip to the next Ace west: 5.3mi +225ft 9 min downhill and 10 up (17.6, 15.9mph avg) on the g311_std motor from Grin, 52V 20in wheel with Schwalbe 2.35 pick-up, no passenger, about +5lb of stuff on the return (uphill) portion. Downhill was lightly/un- assisted, casual pace.
(My trip was +2mi more than this but I had traffic lights & a more circuitous ride in the rest of it since I didn't take the freeway ramp.)

Aside: I've never tried setting this longboard in there since I made the cardboard seatback, but it seems like it would be good for a bit of weight, like some xtracycle bags or a telescoping ladder, wood chipper. A doubled-over strap is below the fold, holding the side tubes in to their tucked (narrower) position. It would need a front handle and/or more of an open fairing for passenger though, this canopy skeleton is not that. #superCargo #UmbrellaBike #cargoBikes #BikeTooter
It's amazing how much faster the #bikeFriday tandem is with the fixed-geared #GrinMAC motor (max speed 22mph, maybe needs a field-weakening adjustment) vs the #supercargo with 350W 13mph assist w/clutch. No stoker/passenger, mostly downhill, but up Terwilliger to Condor, up Ankeny to the 20s. The heavier bike will go faster downhill but weaker motor vs mostly doing 20mph the whole time made 10-12 min difference even with me putting in much more work on the supercargo, cooler day etc. #eBikes
@trainguyrom @yantor3d my #superCargo is highly prone to pedal strike because of the long wheelbase, any vertical transitions with just a little leaning, and it's easy to lose momentum if you stop pedaling. Maybe I need to practice a ratchet technique and perhaps throttle more. The bike maybe should have had a more crank-forward design. I don't have trouble with the xtracycle #edgeRunner but those pedals are much closer to the front wheel. See also my old fixed-gear w/ 2 bent spindles 😖
What a beautiful day to subvert #capitalism by lending people tools, helping people learn to fix their bikes, and I even got some #offGrid #solar charging of #eBikes / #cargoBikes in for a thumb in elon's eye. #superCargo #pdxBikes
@scroeser @morebento I love the #umbrellaBike (yuba #superCargo) for keeping the rain off of _me_ 😆 (I'm made of sugar). It keeps the kid and/or tools/groceries/etc dry too. Partner only wants to ride on the back of the xtracycle #edgeRunner though, is more comfortable behind me in traffic. 11yo still likes to ride up front.
It was so heavy, I even had to use the motor a little. #superCargo #hillTopper #carryShitOlympics #FuckCars
@mmdolbow @davepolaschek @skyfaller something like the https://hilltopper.com in a 700C wheel would cruise at 16-17mph, if you have a bike with suitable fork for that retrofit. That's a pretty limited setup with the small battery won't do 28 or haul much weight uphill without help, but might get you there without sweat if you cruise at 15mph (I'm running a 20in on my #supercargo -- works well enough that I just keep riding it instead of trying to finish that build how I imagined with 2 motors)
Having had an #edgeRunner longtail and *then* a bakfiets aka "box bike" #superCargo has been a slightly backwards journey from what's probably typical for bike parents, but I doubt we would have ridden the infants around in the suburbs and the longtail is way more agile, squeezing between stopped car traffic and bumping up a curb is maybe doable without putting a foot down (if it's 6in or less for me), vs being a matter of leverage and quite an ordeal with the box bike.
