Because I operate a small business licensed in #Sunnyvale , California, I get these notices when the municipal #MinimumWage increases.
Though it's higher than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour (since 2009) and California's minimum wage (as of Jan 1, 2025), it's still far below what the County of Santa Clara recognizes as a #LivingWage suitable for its contractors to pay their workers (ranging from $23.98 to $27.98 per hour, depending on benefits provided):
https://prc.santaclaracounty.gov/legislative-administrative-policies/living-wage-policy
The county's rates are below what I consider a fair living wage for Sunnyvale, by about 2-3 times.
The numbers keep getting higher because inflation has been about 4% per year since the Revenue Act of 1964 shifted income tax burden from the highest earners, enabling them to hoard massive amounts of money, and the cost of housing in #SiliconValley seems to increase by about 6.75% per year as more people continue to want to live here.
