Good news: my city council representative for #Sunnyvale #SantaClaraCounty #sfba #California has responded to my comments about my displeasure of using #Flock cameras in Sunnyvale. She acknowledges that many city residents were unhappy with the city’s unanimous vote to continue using Flock ALPR despite abuses, based on “staff recommendation”.

Anyway, now that I have my councilmember’s attention, I’ll try to have a discussion with her about why I’m unhappy about it. Apparently, the city council appars to have overruled some councilmembers’ request to have a public hearing, and took a vote without public comment, which sounds pretty fishy to me.

I encourage others in Sunnyvale (and #SantaClara and #Cupertino and #SanJose and other cities that still use Flock) to contact their city represntatives to voice their displeasure.

Sunnyvale officials say license plate cameras prevent crime - San José Spotlight

A heated debate over surveillance and public safety is unfolding in Sunnyvale, as residents fear license plate reader cameras could enable mass tracking — while city officials said the technology is critical to stopping crime.

Hey #Sunnyvale #sfba #California residents! The city of Sunnyvale is conduncting an open-ended “Community forums” survey of what people like/dislike about city services. The sessions have several easy survey questions, and an open board on which you can use post-its to tell them what you like or don’t like.

If you are a Sunnyvale resident, please attend their next meeting on June 6 at the Sunnyvale Library. They have food, drinks, and childcare available so please attend and tell them what you think.

One thing I raised was my displeasure at the city using #Flock cameras. This is one way to get that issue tallied and reported to the city council in August. Please attend if you can!

Last night, my city council voted unanimously to continue using #Flock’s ALPR system to surveil vehicles in #Sunnyvale #California #sfba. I have repeatedly voiced my opposition to my representative (who is exceedingly difficult to reach), but I guess they decided that “safety”, no matter the cost, is something worth spending my tax dollars on even when it means ICE may have access to our data.

I will vote against my incumbent representative next election. They are either craven, or gullible, or stupid, or worse, support this nonsense.

“ An underground gas leak prompted evacuations in Sunnyvale Friday evening, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Authorities said the underground gas leak was reported in the 1200 block of Brookings Lane. Residents living in the area were evacuated, and those living on nearby streets were advised to shelter in place and remain indoors until further notice, according to officials.”

In a major win for South Bay creeks, a federal judge has ruled that Mountain View and Sunnyvale violated the Clean Water Act by allowing raw sewage to flow into Stevens and Calabazas creeks--and that they must take steps to fix the problem.

"There were persistent high levels of bacteria and human fecal matter in their stormwater discharges throughout the system," as Baykeeper managing attorney Eric Buescher told NBC Bay Area News.

Now, Baykeeper and the cities will present the judge with suggestions about how to address the problem. The judge is expected to issue a decision on that some time this summer.
