If someone follows me than why should I have to "request" to follow back?

I fully understand why someone wants to gatekeeper their community. But once they've chosen to initiate a connection the reciprocal permission should be automatic.

For today's homework assignment, I have to write a #python script that would be plausibly useful in a #localization workflow. If that sounds very broad, that's because it is, and it's been hard coming up with decent ideas. So, I'm opening up the #SuggestionBox! Give me ideas, and I will make one of them.
Nothing is too niche here: if you're the only person who would ever need it, that still counts and I'd be happy to write you a script. (To the best of my ability.)

I think it would be awesome if it was possible to add translations of a toot to other languages and then it only showed to users in their preferred language, if applicable.

That way I would not need to decide which language to use in mastodon or spam my 3 followers with 2 versions of the same toot.
